Mumbai police enter meme arena, give Gully Boy a ‘Silly Boy’ twist

From Ranveer Singh’s ‘Apna time aayega’ to Alia Bhatt’s ‘Mar jayega tu’, several dialogues from the recently released 2 minute 40 second trailer of the upcoming Bollywood film Gully Boy have been immortalised as hilarious memes. Amid a row of those memes comes the smart and creative one from Mumbai Police which has left netizens in splits.

Mumbai Police, well known for their witty tweets, shared a meme this morning which uses a dialogue from the Gully Boy trailer that was released yesterday. As with all their tweets, this one too contains an important message presented in a hilarious way.

Cops used Alia Bhatt’s dialogue “Mar jayega tu (You will die)” to make an important point about road safety. “When he argues to ride a motorcycle without wearing helmet,” they tweeted. But instead of the viral hashtag of #GullyBoy they altered it to #SillyBoy.

The witty meme, which warns netizens that riding without a helmet is dangerous, has been widely appreciated online. Since being shared online about an hour ago, the meme has already collected over 1,000 ‘likes’ and a ton of amused responses.

Not just Mumbai Police alone, The Nagpur cops too entered the meme arena and used Ranveer Singh’s dialogue from the trailer to convey an important message.

Using Singh’s line “Apna time aayega (my time will come)” the cops urged people to have patience while waiting at traffic signals. “When you are frustrated with the long countdown at the Traffic Signal…Just say to yourself… #PatienceMyBoy.”

Gully Boy is about a rapper from the slums of Mumbai who wants to rise above his socio-economic status to become a star. Despite being discouraged over and over again, he manages to take the underground rap scene by storm.

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on February 14 this year.
