Taking suo motu cognizance of Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Bihar government and the Ministry of Women and Child Development and has asked to keep the identity of the rape survivors confidential. Putting a ban on releasing or publishing the victims’ Supreme Court has ordered that even a morphed image of the victim should not be published. Earlier, few media organisations had published the victims’ blurred picture in their stories. Supreme Court has raised concerns over the sensitivity of the case. Further the Supreme Court has asked the state and the Centre to submit a detailed report in the case.

In the meantime a shut down in Bihar has been called by the Left parties, Congress and Rashtriya janata Dal (RJD) today in protest to the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case of 34 minor girls. The bandh (shutdown) in Bihar is aimed at seeking justice and for the demand of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation. They also demand the CBI probe of the rape case to be monitored by Patna High Court judge.

Left party workers and supporters have blocked railway tracks thereby affecting over a dozen trains since early Thursday morning. Trains were stopped in Darbhanga, Madhubani, Jahanabad, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Patna and Bhojpur districts. Protesters have also blocked several roads in Siwan, Bhojpur, Nawada.

RJD leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav had tweeted a post on Wednesday saying, “Against ghastly, dreadful & gruesome mass rape sponsored by Nitish Kumar, Left parties have called Bihar Bandh tomorrow supported by RJD & Congress demanding CM Nitish Kumar resignation. I assure that I will compel Nitish Kumar to speak up. Chacha, get ready to walk the talk.”
