Namo Bharat RRTS Corridor Approved:The Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor has received approval from the Haryana Cabinet as part of its efforts to enhance regional transportation in North India. The project, which received support from multiple agencies and improved through years of policy development. It will decrease travel times while increasing economic connections and transforming everyday travel patterns in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Namo Bharat RRTS Corridor Approved

The newly approved corridor will span approximately 136.3 km, connecting Delhi to Panipat and further extending to Karnal. The Namo Bharat initiative will establish a semi-high-speed rail system that provides modern transit solutions from urban areas to nearby semi-urban regions.

The officials report that the corridor will relieve highway congestion while providing drivers with a complete road travel replacement. The project will develop into a complete NCR transport network system which will help people access employment and education and healthcare services and commercial centers throughout the area.

Travel Time Slashed to Just 90 Minutes

The project achieves its most outstanding result through its ability to reduce travel time to Delhi from Karnal. The new system will allow commuters to reach Karnal from Delhi within 90 minutes which currently requires a longer time through existing roadways.

Major improvements will occur in shorter segments which include the following distances:

  • Delhi to Panipat: Nearly 1 hour
  • Delhi to Sonipat: Around 35 minutes
  • Delhi to Murthal: About 30 minutes

Route, Alignment and Key Stops

The corridor will begin in Delhi at the Sarai Kale Khan transit hub and proceed through Sonipat and Panipat while terminating in Karnal.

The project has a total length of approximately 136 kilometers.

The system will have approximately 22 stations which includes 11 stations located in Haryana.

The complete station list has not been officially confirmed yet but previous planning documents show that the corridor will connect major urban areas and industrial regions to achieve maximum passenger usage and economic benefits.

Project Cost and Funding Details

An official spokesperson said that as per the approved proposal, the Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Namo Bharat (RRTS) corridor will extend from Delhi to Panipat and up to Karnal, covering 136.30 km. The estimated total project cost is about ₹33,051 crore, out of which, the share of the Haryana government will be about ₹7,472 crore. The funding will be distributed in multiple stages.

The project will probably take place under the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) operational framework.

The project will use Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policies for financial sustainability because these policies permit higher-density commercial growth in areas surrounding stations and depots.

The corridor will span 11 stations in Haryana which serve both urban areas and developing semi-urban territories.

The project incorporates the following essential elements:

  • Commercial development above depots
  • High Floor Area Ratio (FAR) zones near stations
  • Multi-modal connectivity with metro and bus networks

Experts believe this will not just be a transport project but a catalyst for planned urban expansion which will lead to real estate development and establishment of new business centers along the transportation route.

Future Expansion Plans

Haryana authorities plan to build the corridor from Karnal to Panchkula through the cities of Kurukshetra and Saha.

The proposed extension will improve northward transportation links while establishing a continuous high-speed transit system throughout Haryana. The Delhi–Panipat–Karnal corridor serves as a primary route in India’s Namo Bharat RRTS network which seeks to duplicate the achievements of the Delhi–Meerut rapid rail system.
