The Background of National Career Nurse Aides Day
Assistants to nurses have existed for a very long time, actually since World War I! The conflict exhausted the tens of thousands of deployed nurses alongside the soldiers. In the 1980s, there were concerns about the quality of care supplied by untrained staff in these nursing homes. This issue was resolved with the passage of a special law mandating certification for all nursing assistants. This signified the transition in the profession.
