National EHS Awareness Day is observed annually on June 10 to bring attention to electromagnetic hypersensitivity syndrome (E.H.S.). Because very little research has been conducted on the symptoms and repercussions of this syndrome, it is not considered a medically diagnosable condition. Nonetheless, numerous international physicians and scientists acknowledge the debilitating impacts this illness can have on some individuals. The syndrome is caused by heightened sensitivity to the electrical environment, which can include mobile devices, Wi-Fi, and other electronic devices. As we incorporate more and more electronic devices into our lives, this sensitivity is only likely to increase.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL EHS AWARENESS DAY

National EHS Awareness Day was established by DefenderShield in 2020 to increase awareness of this little-known illness whose prevalence is likely to increase as our reliance on electronic devices grows. Due to the lack of awareness, this condition is frequently misdiagnosed. Few have even heard of E.H.S., leaving people to speculate for years as to the source of their symptoms. According to some studies, one in five persons may have E.H.S. Rapidly, it is becoming evident that technology has numerous negative effects on people’s lives. Although its negative effects on mental health are well-documented, the somatic aspect has been the subject of extensive research. Many of us experience social isolation as a result of our reliance on these devices, which has been linked to melancholy, anxiety, and sleep disorders. It also has a negative impact on ADHD and learning disabilities.

People with EHS may exhibit a variety of non-specific symptoms, which they attribute to sources of electromagnetic fields. Several studies have demonstrated that extremely low intensities of electromagnetic fields at magnetic and radio-frequency frequencies have biological effects at the cellular level. Many of the mechanisms described for multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) may also be applicable to E.H.S. Consequently, repeated exposure may result in sensitization and a consequently amplified response. Extreme oxidative stress appears to have overwhelmed the detoxification systems of a number of hypersensitive patients.

However, it must be kept in mind that the research is not conclusive at this time. Numerous other studies indicate that individuals with EHS cannot detect EMF exposure any more accurately than those without EHS. E.H.S. symptoms were not associated with electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure, according to well-controlled, double-blind investigations.
