National Exercise Day 2023: Date, history, activities and facts

National Exercise Day 2023: National Exercise Day is annually observed on April 18. Everyone is encouraged to partake in physical activities on this day. Exercise improves our overall health by providing us with more energy, making us feel better, and even adding years to our lives. Regular physical activity and exercise provide numerous health benefits that cannot be ignored.

Exercise benefits everyone, regardless of age, gender, or physical aptitude. Despite the importance of exercise, only a small number of people are committed to it. National Exercise Day is a day dedicated to encouraging and motivating people to exercise, with the hope that it will become a new routine for everyone.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL EXERCISE DAY

Ancient Greece is the most well-known figure in the history of fitness, but it is believed that general fitness played a role in virtually every significant civilization throughout history. The history of fitness and exercise in all of its forms has been pervasive throughout time and space, from the origins of yoga in ancient India to the ferocity of mediaeval European mob football. Yoga is the oldest known form of exercise, dating back to 3300 BCE in India. This mind-body practise has taken on numerous forms since its inception. Other types of yoga, such as Hatha yoga, have also emphasised physical health throughout its history.

People have recognised that exercise has numerous health benefits since antiquity. Marcus Cicero, a Roman politician and jurist, remarked in 65 B.C. that physical activity alone bolsters the spirit and maintains a healthy mind. Later in history, during the Early Middle Ages, the Germanic peoples of Northern Europe viewed physical activity as a means of survival.

In 1949, under the leadership of Jerry Morris, a team discovered the connection between exercise and physical health and published a report on it in 1953. Dr. Morris discovered that the amount of exercise performed by men of similar occupations and social classes resulted in substantially different heart attack rates. Due to the sedentary nature of their work, bus drivers had a higher incidence of cardiac disease than conductors.

NATIONAL EXERCISE DAY ACTIVITIES

Attend the gym

Individuals visit the gym to get in shape. Even if you begin by exercising once per week, it will be beneficial. Eventually, if you maintain your motivation, regular gym activities will make you feel and appear healthier. Keeping track of your progress is all that’s left to do to maintain your motivation to go to the gym routinely.

Listen to music while working out

While exercising, listening to music will boost your mood and encourage you to exercise for longer. Therefore, put in your headphones and enjoy yourself while exercising.

Encourage exercise in others

Getting in shape will be more enjoyable when done with family and friends. Encourage others to join you at the gym by sharing some of your motivation and enthusiasm with them.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL EXERCISE DAY

We enjoy staying trim.

Since physical fitness is maintained through exercise, we cannot help but enjoy it. We must appreciate what is beneficial to us.

Exercising keeps us mentally alert.

In addition to physical benefits, exercise also has mental benefits. When you exercise, your body releases feel-good chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins into your brain. In addition to releasing feel-good chemicals, exercise helps your brain eliminate chemicals that cause you to feel agitated and anxious.

We are able to form bonds with our peers.

On National Exercise Day, we have the opportunity to exercise together with our companions. Group workouts are more effective than individual workouts at enhancing physical and mental health.
