National Food Faces Day 2024 (US): Nation Food Faces Day is observed annually on April 6. Chef Rudi Sodamin established this day to honor his accomplishments as a food-face artist and to commemorate his birthday, which falls precisely on this date. As a means of amusing his crew, Master Chef Sodamin of the Holland America cruise line devised the concept of constructing culinary faces.

Years after beginning to design them, he progressed to photographing and accumulating them in preparation for the publication of his coffee table book “Food Faces.” It showcased more than 150 illustrations of his consumable personas, every one fashioned from various food items including fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, grains, and desserts.

In 1873, Holland America Line was established. Established in the Netherlands, it functioned as a Dutch shipping line, passenger, cargo, and cruise line that primarily transported goods between the Netherlands and North America, from 1873 to 1989. Holland America Line debuted its inaugural vacation cruise in 1895, followed by the introduction of its second cruise, which departed from New York to Palestine in 1910.

Holland America Line ceased transatlantic service in the late 1970s, following the peak of transatlantic jet aviation travel. The line was acquired by Carnival Corporation & plc in 1989, at which point it became a cruise line owned by American interests. Presently, the organization operates a fleet of vessels that visit over 470 locations spanning 98 countries.

Chef Sodamin is the Master Chef of Holland America Line and has thirty-five years of experience in the culinary industry. Since 2005, when he started working for the Holland America Line, he has been producing culinary faces. His artwork has been published and has garnered numerous social media ovations. “Food Faces,” his book, was published in 2018.

Chef Sodamin’s restaurant, Rudi’s Sel de Mer, is present on two Holland America Line ships. Guests can dine aboard the cruise ships while meeting the food-faced characters and savoring the chef’s fanciful creations presented on one-of-a-kind plate chargers. Each one depicts a unique character from the book, creating an aesthetically pleasing evening.
