The Double Cola Company introduced SKI Citrus Soda on August 10, 1956, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After a series of trials, the team eventually discovered the ideal combination of orange and lemon flavour. Two years later, in the summer of 1958, SKI was eventually registered and introduced to the market. The name was conceptualised by employee Dot Myers, who suggested the names ‘Ski’ and ‘Skee’ after a skiing excursion to Chickamauga lake inspired her. It proved to be an enormous success.
Multiple bottling facilities in numerous states, including Alaska, Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, California, Missouri, North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Utah, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia, were responsible for bottling the soda. The public embraced the flavour immediately due to its authentic citrus taste and reviving qualities.
In 1962, Fairmont Foods acquired Double Cola Company, necessitating packaging modifications for SKI. They now include the colour blue in the slogans “The Perfect Beverage” and “Summertime, Springtime, Wintertime, Anytime.”
