NBSA slams news channels for vilifying reports against Rakul Preet Singh, asks to air apology

NBSA slams news channels for vilifying reports against Rakul Preet Singh, asks to air apology

The National Broadcasting Standards Authority or NBSA has slammed at various leading news channels, including Aaj Tak, Zee News, and Times Now for making vilifying reports linking Rakul Preet Singh to drugs.

According to ‘Live Law’, “The NBSA also directed Times Now, India TV, Aaj Tak, India Today, News Nation TV, and ABP News to take down the links of the reports against Rakul Singh from a website and social media. The channels were warned.”

The court has directed the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) to look into the case. News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has now directed Zee News and Zee Hindustan to offer apologies to the actress for carrying false reports against the actress. The channels will have to delete all the videos on their platform and also air an apology on the channel on December 17.

The ‘Yaariyan’ actress in September had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court against “unsubstantiated reports linking her with a drug case being investigated by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).” Singh along with other actresses including Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor was summoned in the drugs case related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

On September 29, the Delhi High Court had asked the Centre, the information and broadcasting ministry, the Press Council of India, and the News Broadcasters Association to respond to Singh’s plea. On September 17, the High Court had ordered media houses to abide by the provisions of the Programme Code, and other guidelines.
