News Agency ANI is being roasted on social media for spreading fake news on Tablighi Jamaat. The DCP Noida took on the news agency after they linked suspected Covid-19 cases in Noida to Tablighi Jamaat.

The news agency ANI claimed that Noida police had quarantined a group of people in Sector 5 Harola since they allegedly came in contact with the Tablighi Jamaat. However, the Noida Police wasted no time in declaring that the said news item flashed by the ANI was fake.

The official Twitter handle of Ani UP had tweeted that “Those in Sector 5 Harola, Noida, who came in contact with Tablighi Jamaat members have been quarantined: Sankalp Sharma, Gautam Budh Nagar (DCP) #COVID19.”

After the DCP asked them not to spread the fake news, the tweet was deleted later on by the news agency.

However, the DCP-rank officer of the Noida Police quoted in the ANI flash publicly contradicted the news agency’s claim and termed it ‘fake news.’ The tweet by DCP Noida read, “@ANINewsUP people who had come in contact with the positive case were quarantined as per laid procedure. There was no mention of Tabligh Jamat. You are misquoting and spreading fake news. @noidapolice @Uppolice.”

The DM of Gautam Buddha Nagra, Noida also said that “No new cases have been found in Noida sector 8. Only as a precautionary measure of “cluster containment” where previous cases have been found, people have been shifted and will be put under observation for the welfare of them and their surroundings . Request you to dispel rumours”

According to the DM, surveillance teams have traced the “possible contacts” of JJ cluster where Covid-19 patients were found few days back. “Families are being quarantined for their welfare and the welfare of the surroundings. This is just an exercise of ‘cluster containment’,” he said.

Earlier in the evening, reports emerged that teams of the district administration and health department got about 240 people quarantined due to the “finding a corona suspect in Sector 8, Noida.”

Refuting the reports, the DM also requested the media to dispel all such rumours. “This is only an exercise of containment,” he said.
