For the first time, equity benchmark NSE Nifty touched a high of 10,000 in Tuesday’s opening trade. The broader index opened at 10,010.55, and gained 44.15 points.
The BSE Sensex was also on a surge as it opened at 32,350.71, up by 104.84 points. Sensex was up by 0.12% and Nifty was gaining more than 0.20 %.
The opening trade rally was led by metal, banking, realty and FMCG stocks.
However, Nifty slipped below the landmark, soon after opening. Experts believe that Nifty needs to cross the mark of 10,020-25, to be able to hold on to the gains.
In spite of the global markets closing on a mixed note on Friday, the Indian stock markets have managed to guard against market correction in the first two days of the week.
Reliance Industries on Friday and HDFC Bank on Monday had impressive quarterly showings, which are believed to have boosted investor sentiments.
Top performers in the trade were Hero MotoCorpt, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, Power Grid, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, NTPC, Bajaj Auto, SBI, M&M, Dr Reddy’s, Adani Ports and ITC Ltd, rising by up to 1.28 %.
On the other hand, Lupin, Cipla, ONGC, Wipro and HCL Tech lost badly.
