Nine Dalits were severally injured after 20 persons allegedly attacked them after a disagreement in Mirchpur village of Hisar district. Notably, CRPF troops were withdrawn only last month from the area. Around six years ago two people were burnt alive in an inter-caste violence in the same village.

As per the police, the villagers were watching a cycle show on Monday night. It was then that some people allegedly passed a caste-based comment on a Dalit youth who had won the contest. When the Dalits objected, a group of people from another community allegedly molested them.

Post the incident, a large number of Dalits amassed outside of the Mirchpur Police Chowki and held a protest with raising slogans against the police.

After receiving information about the event, SP Rajender Kumar Meena and Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Gajraj together with other officers and police force reached the village. Now the situation in the village is under control. Extra police force has been deployed to avoid any infuriating incident, the SP said. In-charge of Mirchpur Chowki has been transferred.

While one injured was admitted to Agroha Medical College, five others to the civil hospital with plain injuries. They were likely to be discharged today, said Superintendent of Police Rajender Kumar Meena.

A case under section 148 (rioting), 149 (if an offence be committed by any member of an unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC and under the provisions of the SC/ST Act has been filed against 15 people in Narnaund Police Station.

Almost six years ago, two people were burnt alive in an inter-caste violence in the same village. Later, CRPF troops had been deployed to maintain peace but were withdrawn last year.
