Railway authorities seem to face a negative outcome of giving access to free internet and wi-fi at suburban railway stations in Mumbai. Non-commuters and potential miscreants have been found to be using free wi-fi to watch porn inside the station.

In an attempt to get rid of the problem, railway officials in the city have urged the Railtel, the agency providing the services, to shut the wi-fi facility after midnight or after the departure of last suburban train from the stations. They have also urged Railtel to implement methods that will prevent the misuse of free wi-fi at the station premises where outstation trains leave late in the night.

“Several non-commuters are found inside stations using free wi-fi to watch porn. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) drives them out of the stations but they somehow manage to sneak in again”, a railway official quoted.

Of late, 19 stations of the suburban railway commuters were equipped with wi-fi facilities. These stations are Chembur and Ghatkopar, Kurla, Thane, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Bandra Terminus, Vashi, Kalyan, Panvel, Borivali, Churchgate, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Byculla, Khar Road, Dadar (Central Railway), Dadar ( Western Railway), Andheri, Bandra.
