New York Guaranteed Income Plan 2026: New York City leaders have decided to try a new idea to help people who struggle with housing and money. The City Council approved $1.5 million for the year 2026 for a program called “Cash with Care.” This plan gives direct cash help instead of short term aid.

City officials believe this method can help people stand on their own feet. The program builds on earlier efforts that helped pregnant women who lived in very hard conditions. This time the focus moves to young adults who face homelessness and uncertainty every day.

How the Cash with Care Program Works?

The goal of Cash with Care is simple. It wants to help people move slowly toward a stable life. Each person in the program will get steady money for one full year.

  • Monthly payment:Each participant will receive $1,200 per month for the first nine months.
  • Stability bonus:A one-time payment of $5,000 will be awarded, which can be requested at any time during the first stage of the program.
  • Comprehensive services:In addition to money, young people will receive advice on legal benefits, mental health and emotional support in a non-judgmental environment.

Participants can ask for this money anytime during the early part of the program. This extra help can cover housing trouble or sudden needs. The city also gives more than just cash.
