His vehicle started to spin uncontrollably because he turned his steering wheel to prevent an accident. This caused it to drive off the road and break through distance markers before crashing into the barriers with a force that measured 50G.

Bearman, who experienced severe injuries, managed to leave the accident site after suffering only a right knee contusion, which resulted in him walking with difficulty.

FIA Statement: “Safety Remains a Core Priority”

The FIA issued a comprehensive statement which acknowledged that high closing speeds caused the crash while it confirmed that they currently conduct regulatory assessments. The governing body declared that The 2026 Regulations remain under assessment for their energy management systems Section of the regulations.

A Haas spokesperson said: “Update on Bearman. 50G impact. Has had an X-ray at the Medical Centre. No fractures. A right knee contusion following the impact. Alert and communicating.”

Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu:
“First and foremost, it’s good that Ollie is okay. It was a big shunt and Ollie is really gutted about it.

“The closing speed was huge, it was close to 50kph, and it was a pretty scary moment, but I’m glad that he came out okay.

The April meetings will decide whether existing rules require modifications which will be done through data analysis and simulations and consultations with stakeholders.

Bearman Speaks Out

In a set of quotes provided by Haas, Bearman has revealed he is “fine” after his crash.

“First of all, everything is fine and I’m good,” said Bearman. “It was a scary moment out there but everything is okay, which is the main thing.

“The adrenaline is wearing off a bit so it’s going to be a long trip home, but I’m absolutely fine.

“The car is a bit worse for wear. I can only apologise to the team because it’s a lot of work.

“There was a massive overspeed – around 50kph – which is a part of these new regulations and we have to get used to it, but also I felt like I wasn’t given much space, given the huge excess speed I was carrying.

Drivers React: “We Warned This Would Happen”

Multiple top drivers together with team officials have expressed deep worries after the accident.

“We’ve been very vocal on this – we’ve been warning that this kind of accident was going to happen,” said Williams’s Carlos Sainz afterwards.

“With these closing speeds, this was going to happen. Hopefully, we come up with a better solution given these massive closing speeds and [find] a better way of racing. We’re lucky there was an escape road [run-off area]. Imagine what would happen in Baku or Vegas [street tracks]. It was 50G, that is higher than my crash in Russia in 2016, which was 46G.

“I hope it serves as one example… the racing is clearly not OK.”

The entire paddock maintains a unified opinion regarding the sport’s safety improvements which have occurred since its inception yet current racing conditions create fresh safety hazards.

Bearman’s crash is already being described as a “tipping point” for Formula 1’s new era. With upcoming races on tighter circuits like Miami, Baku, and Singapore, pressure is mounting on the FIA to act quickly.
