Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently shared an Instagram post to raise awareness about the ongoing Chennai water crisis. The actor shared a BBC story about the crisis and alongside wrote: “We can change the world.”
As per a report, water in four of Chennai’s main reservoirs has reduced to less than 1%. Most of the population is dependent on the state-run and private water tanks. Due to this, several hotels and restaurants have also been closed. Also, the Central Water Commission reporting a rainfall deficit of 41 percent in Tamil Nadu.
The actor has visited India in 2015 to film a segment for his 2016 documentary film, Beyond the Flood. During his visit, Leonardo DiCaprio interviewed Sunita Narain of Centre for Science and Environment. He also visited Taj Mahal on his trip.
For those unaware, Leonardo DiCaprio is an environmentalist and has spoken about climate change in the UN and has also made several documentaries on the subject.
The actor also founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which dedicated to promoting environmental awareness in the year 1998, when the actor rose to fame due to his performance in Titanic. Through this foundation, the actor has raised a million dollars to help protect the environment.
On the work front, the actor will be next seen in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which is helmed by Quentin Tarantino which also stars Brad Pitt among others. The film is slated to release in August in India.
