Padmini Ekadashi is an auspicious Hindus fasting day that falls on the ‘Ekadashi’ tithi (11th day) of the Shukla Paksha (the waxing phase of the moon) during the ‘Adhik Mahina’ or ‘Purushottam Masam’ (13th month) of the Hindu calendar.

The Padmini Ekadashi is considered to be very dear to Lord Vishnu and the one who observes it’s fast religiously goes directly to the abode of Vishnu after death.

Padmini Ekadashi 2020 Date and Timings:

This year, Padmini Ekadashi will be observed on September 27. Ekadashi Tithi begins at 6:59 PM on September 26 and ends at 7:46 PM on September 27.

Padmini Ekadashi Significance:

Padmini Ekadashi was first observed by Padmini, the queen of King Kartavirya, and owing to her dedication, this Ekadashi was named after her. The customs and rituals of Padmini Ekadashi are performed to wash away the sins of both, present and past lives, and in the end seek place in ‘Vaikunta’, Lord Vishnu’s abode.

Devotees keep a day-long fast, recite Vishnu Sahasranama, perform Lord Vishnu puja, maintain celibacy and read the sacred scriptures to seek his blessings. It is said that by observing a fast on this Ekadashi, a person can get rid of the sins committed in the past and present births.

Padmini Ekadashi Rituals:

  • Devotees Worship Lord Vishnu after taking bath early in the morning.
    ●  Then, they perform Nirjala Vrat and recite Vishnu Purana.
    ●  The worshippers also perform jagrans and bhajan-kirtans in the night.
    ●  It is the ritual to worship Lord Vishnu and Shiva at every pehra of the night.
    ●  With every pehra, devotees present offerings like coconut in first pehra, quince (Bel) in second, pumpkin in third and orange & areca nut (Supari) in fourth pehra.
    ●  On the day of Dwadashi, devotees worship God early in the morning.
    ●  They offer food and donation to the brahmins.
    ●  After that, the devotees break their fasts.
