A recent job advertisement by the Pakistan Rangers for their recruitment programme, published in a popular Pakistani daily on August 26, has sparked a raging controversy on social media as the ad specified “non-Muslims only” for the post of sanitation workers.

Although the advert had listed vacancies for various posts in both – combatant and non-combatant services, the advert is being seen as a major snide towards the minorities in country. Among all the designated jobs, only the work of sanitation employee specified the preference saying – “non-Muslim only”.

A minority rights activist Kapil Dev took it to his respective Twitter to highlight the discrimination. Kapil shared the picture of the ad on with the caption – “So, the criteria for job of a sweeper/sanitary workers in Pakistan is just you should be “NON-MUSLIM ONLY”!! Your job is to make filth only, and ours is to clean only!”

Photo of the ad has gone viral on social media, inviting cross border debates with people condemning the post. While some lashed out at the ad and sought an apology, others asked will ‘Naya Pakistan’ under Imran Khan’s government change things.
