13:06 PM: Sensex zooms nearly 1,200 pts
The Union Cabinet held a weekly meeting in the Parliament annexe building this morning. Here’s what sources say happened:
– Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak in India.
– Health Minister Harsh Vardhan briefed the cabinet on measures taken to tackle the outbreak.
– Decision taken: Secretaries in the health, civil aviation, foreign, finance and commerce ministries to provide daily briefings on the coronavirus epidemic.

10:08 AM: Lok Sabha sits for over 12 hours
On Thursday, the Lok Sabha conducted a marathon session without lunch or dinner breaks that lasted more than 12 hours. That’s six hours longer than normal timings: both Houses usually do seven-hour days. The Lok Sabha was debating demands for grants under the control of the railway’s ministry for 2020-21.
For the last two days, Parliament has debated last month’s riots in Delhi, in which over 50 were killed, and seen received briefings from the government about India’s response to its growing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) epidemic.
