PM Awas Yojana Deadline: The government has decided to give people more time to apply for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Now the last date to apply is December 2025. This move gives families living in both cities and villages extra time to register and get help to build or buy their own strong houses.

PMAY is the Centre’s main housing plan which focuses on helping poor and low-income families. It aims to give good, permanent homes to those who need them the most especially families that are weak financially or belong to backward communities.

The scheme has already helped a lot of people. As per the latest numbers shared by officials, over 92.61 lakh homes have been built under PMAY. These houses are for those who didn’t have proper shelter and needed government support to live better. With the new deadline now pushed to the end of 2025, many more families still waiting for a chance can now apply and benefit.

PM Awas Yojana Deadline: Eligibility

To get help under the PMAY Urban part of the scheme, people must fit into certain groups. The most basic rule is that the person or their family should not already own a proper pucca house anywhere in the country.

PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U)

To qualify, applicants must not own a pucca house anywhere in India and should fall under one of the following categories:

  • EWS: Annual income up to ₹3 lakh
  • LIG: Annual income between ₹3 lakh and ₹6 lakh
  • MIG-I: Annual income between ₹6 lakh and ₹9 lakh
  • Slum dwellers: Residents of informal settlements

The scheme mainly supports people from economically weaker sections, lower income groups, and other backward groups. It is also open to people who do jobs like rickshaw pulling, working on daily wages, vending on the streets, and working in factories. Women from weaker groups, especially widows and those from SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities, can also get support through PMAY.

PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G)

Priority is given to rural households identified in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) that:

  • Do not own a house
  • Live in kutcha houses with up to two rooms

But not everyone can apply. If a family already owns a pucca house or has vehicles or machines used in farming, then they cannot get this benefit. Also, people who earn more or have assets like big land or even home items like refrigerators may not qualify, especially if they pay taxes. The scheme is only for those who genuinely need help and do not have any strong house to live in.
