Former IPS officer DG Vanzara, a prime accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, held a road show from Jagannath Temple at Jamalpur to Tagore Hall at Paldi in Ahmedabad. While addressing the gathering, Vanzara reiterated his stand that he has been claiming since he was released from jail.

The former head of the Gujarat Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) had maintained once again that, “the country could not have had a strong prime minister in Narendra Modi, had these terrorists been not killed by the Gujarat police in encounters.”

Incidentally, a special CBI court changed his bail clause in the 2006 Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Now, he is being exempted from marking his presence at the CBI office in Gandhinagar on a daily basis. Vanzara was held in the Ishrat encounter case when he was already in jail concerning the Sohrabuddin encounter case.

While addressing a gathering, he also said that, “no encounter in Gujarat was fake and in each encounter, terrorists, who had come to kill politicians and destroy the state’s peace and prosperity, were killed.”

The gathering also witnessed the presence of VHP members and heads of several Hindu outfits.

Vanzara was arrested in 2007 by a Gujarat CID (Crime) squad and remained in jail for eight years. He was granted bail in the Sohrabuddin case by the Bombay High Court in September 2014.

He walked out of jail after a CBI Special Court permitted his bail plea in the Ishrat case in February 2015. Vanzara remained in Mumbai for a year as he was banned from entering Gujarat. However, he finally returned home after his bail conditions in the encounter cases was changed.
