CEO of Prasar Bharati Jawahar Sircar has submitted his resignation four months ahead of the end of his tenure. It is learnt that Sircar wishes to be relieved of his responsibilities by November 4. Sircar was appointed by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Sircar had repeatedly accused the government of interference.

A source in the ministry, however, said no decision has been taken yet on Sircar’s request to be relieved of charges.

Most recently Sircar wanted to ensure the slot sale policy mechanism for Doordarshan, which was slipping steadily on the revenue and viewership front. He had repeatedly accused the ministry of impeding efforts to run Doordarshan and All India Radio in an autonomous manner.

In 2014, he disclosed that certain portions of the then BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s interview on Doordarshan ‘were apparently edited’.

Sircar who was appointed by the erstwhile UPA government has served in the Ministry of Culture as secretary for over three years from 2008 to 2012 after which he was appointed at Prasar Bharti.
