Identified as Gopikrishna Durgaprasad, a software engineer from Andhra Pradesh who started working in Pune three days ago, jumped to his death in the early hours of Wednesday. The assistant police inspector (API) Dilip Jaisingkar of Vimantal police station confirmed the news.
A note is found by the police officials, written and signed in English. It reads, “In IT there is no job security. I’m worried a lot about my family.” The note was detained from his hotel room. The incident was reported in the light of massive layoffs by IT companies in the city. The IT employees are now in the process of forming a union to stand up against such practices by IT companies.
The Assistant police inspector Dilip Jaisingkar, a part of investigation team said, “He had started working for Pitney Bowes Company on July 9 and the company had made arrangements for him at the hotel. Around 1.40 am on Wednesday, he jumped from the balcony of his sixth-floor room. Two on-duty security guards heard a loud sound and rushed to the spot. They informed the hotel manager, who in turn informed us. We called the ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital. He was declared dead before arrival.”
Police further said, “The hospital reports showed fractured rib cage and a broken arm.” The man is survived by parents and a sister. Her sister was present at the hospital with her husband.
