Ramadan 2020 Moon Sighting Date, Timings in India LIVE Updates: In India and neighbouring country Bangladesh, today is the 29th day of incumbent Islamic month Shaban. If the crescent is sighted, then the holy month of Ramadan Kareem will begin and the first fast or roza will be observed from Saturday.
In regions where the moon is not sighted, the fasts will begin from Sunday, April 26.
In Kerala and Coastal Karnataka moon was sighted on Thursday and Ramzan begun from Thursday. The crescent moon was sighted at Kappad in Kozhikode.
Ramzan or Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims which begins with the sighting of the crescent moon on the day after the full moon. The Islamic calendar suggests that the moon will appear on April 23 (Thursday).
According to a report in Inews, HM Nautical Almanac Office has stated that as per calculations, the new moon is likely to be visible by Friday, April 24. It produces UK’s official astronomical data. Having based on the lunar calendar, its position in the Gregorian calendar tends to differ meaning the start date cannot be precisely predicted.

During this festival, Muslims also donate alms and feed to the poor. As per beliefs, the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad during this month. They also believe that during this time, the gate of hell close and heaven open. Generally, people wish each other by meeting and hugging each other. They offer prayers together at the mosque and hold iftar parties to break the fast, but due to coronavirus lockdown, everyone will celebrate it with their families and friends in self-isolation.
