Doomsday Fish Cabo San Lucas Beach: People visiting the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico recently saw something very strange. Two long and thin deep sea fish suddenly appeared close to the shore. These fish are often called “doomsday fish.” Their bodies looked like shiny ribbons moving in the water.
These creatures normally live far below the ocean surface, so it is very rare to see them near beaches or around people. Because of this, many beach visitors stopped and watched in surprise when the fish appeared.

The moment was recorded in a video that later appeared on Instagram. The clip was shared by Monica Pittenger together with the page We Love Animals. In the video, one of the fish had already reached the sand on the beach while the second one was still moving slowly in shallow water.
People standing nearby did not know what to do at first. They had never seen such a fish before.
Pittenger described the strange moment and said, “It was like something out of a fiction movie. I had never seen anything like it before. I just remember thinking, Is this real?”
Soon a few people decided to help the animals. Pittenger explained how the moment unfolded when someone quickly handed her their belongings so they could help the fish. She said, “Just watching all these men standing around, and she throws me her phone and her drink and her bag, and she’s like, ‘Hold this.’”
Her sister also stepped forward to help. Pittenger said her sister “cannot stand anything in pain.” A young girl nearby also joined them. Together they gently pushed the first fish back into the sea. After that they helped guide the second fish into deeper water as well.
Why is seeing this Fish so Rare?
According to information shared online, these fish are called oarfish. They usually live very deep in the ocean. Many reports say they can live about 1,000 meters below the sea surface. Because they stay so deep, people almost never see them near beaches.
In the past some old stories linked these fish to natural disasters like earthquakes or tsunamis. Some people believed that when an oarfish appears near land it means something bad might happen soon.

Scientists do not agree with that idea. Experts say there is no scientific proof that these fish can predict disasters. A report by Newsweek also mentioned that after this sighting there was no earthquake or seismic activity in the area.
Pittenger also explained how the group first noticed something unusual in the water before they realised it was a fish. She said, “We saw something in the distance. It was flashing, and it was really bright. And when we saw them up close, it was like nothing we’ve seen before, so we were like, ‘This can’t be real.’”
