RBI Mandates Banks Open on March 3: There is a special request from the Indian government regarding bank operations on March 31. Only certain bank branches, called agency banks, will remain open on this Sunday. For the financial year 2023-2024, these branches will handle government payments and receipts.
Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) informed people of which branches will be open for transactions.
What do you mean by agency bank?
Generally, agency banks assist the government with its financial transactions by working closely with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and its Government Banking Divisions. Currently, all public sector banks and some private banks are designated as agency banks by the RBI. Government banking tasks can only be handled by certain branches of these agency banks.
