Home to countries top politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday decided to rename the Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg.

“There were some suggestions in NDMC meeting, but consensus was that Race course road be now called Lok Kalyan Marg,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters.

Reacting to the development, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti said, “A change of name doesn’t matter. This doesn’t give any solution to unemployment, inflation, etc., the Prime Minister is doing no ‘Kalyan’ for the people”.

Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah also took a dig saying, “It is so good to know that everything is alright with the world and we can focus on the stuff that really matters”.

Earlier on Tuesday, BJP lawmaker Meenakshi Lekhi had pitched for the name “Ekatma Marg” and wrote to the government that the current name of the road “does not match with Indian culture”.

Lekhi, a member of the New Delhi Municipal Council, formally propose the name change in NDMC’s. The civic body is in charge of the centre of the city, which houses top government offices, roads and bungalows.
