Reliance Reportedly Testing Sound Box: Unified Payment Interface, also known as UPI, has become the most popular payment method in the country. There are numerous sellers with UPI QR code scanners, and many of them even have sound devices. These are small, audible devices that alert the seller whenever a payment is effectively received. Paytm was the first company to introduce sound devices, but PhonePe quickly followed suit. Now, indications indicate that Reliance could become the club’s third member.

According to a new TechCrunch report citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Reliance has begun testing its own sound box device. To be undergoing testing with a few personnel in a few of its campus stores. This is essentially internal testing, which is typically performed by companies prior to public testing.
According to the report, Reliance’s sound box device would be compatible with Jio Pay. This is not surprising given that Jio Pay is Reliance Jio’s UPI payment app. It is a similar method by which Paytm and PhonePe’s sound devices function for payments made on their respective platforms.
