Renowned Singer and Telangana Activist Saichand Passes Away: Early Thursday morning, renowned singer Saichand, who mesmerised many with his singing during the separate Telangana agitation, perished of a heart attack.

V Sai Chand, a Telangana activist, traditional singer, and the governor of the Telangana State Warehouse Corporation, died of a cardiac arrest. He was hurried to the Care Hospital in Gachibowli, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. He was 39. Saichand leaves behind a wife, a daughter, and a son.

Wednesday evening, Sai Chand and his family arrived at their homestead in Karukonda, Nagarkurnool district. At midnight, he complained of discomfort and was transferred promptly to a private hospital in Nagarkarnool. As his condition worsened, family members transported him to Care Hospital in Gachibowli, where physicians pronounced him deceased.

K Chandrashekhar Rao, president of the BRS and chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, conveyed profound astonishment over Saichand’s untimely passing and extended his heartfelt condolences to his family. He stated that he was profoundly affected by Saichand’s death at such a young age and that his contribution to the Telangana statehood movement was invaluable.

“The culture of Telangana has lost a wonderful vocalist and artist. After igniting the Telangana spirit during the movement, he disseminated the development message through his compositions. It is unfortunate that we lost him, particularly as he reached new heights,” the Chief Minister said, recalling Saichand’s uplifting melodies during the Telangana statehood movement. He remembered that his public gatherings were never held without Saichand’s participation. He prayed for the family’s fortitude and assured their complete support.

20 September 1984, Saichand was born in Amarchinta, Wanaparthy district. He pursued a postgraduate degree, but garnered recognition as an artist and vocalist during his undergraduate years. Through his song and performance, he ignited the Telangana spirit among the people during the second phase of the Telangana movement. After the foundation of the state, he has been actively promoting the development and welfare programmes of the BRS government. Saichand was appointed Chairman of the Telangana State Warehouse Corporation in December 2021 and has held the position since then.

KT Rama Rao, minister and working president of the BRS, was stunned by Saichand’s untimely death and expressed his condolences to his family. Since the Telangana movement, Saichand’s voice had rendered incalculable service to the Telangana society, particularly the BRS. His demise, he said, was a tremendous loss. He stated that Saichand’s name will be engraved in the annals of Telangana movement and cultural history.

T Harish Rao, the minister of finance, expressed astonishment over Saichand’s untimely demise and offered his condolences to the family. He stated that his junior sibling Saichand’s untimely death has caused him tremendous suffering. He recalled that the folk singer’s song and performance played a crucial role in the Telangana movement, inspiring many people to join the agitation. The role he played in the movement will never be forgotten by Telangana society, he said, adding that Saichand’s melodies will forever remain in the affections of Telangana’s citizens.

Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Ministers S Niranjan Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, G Jagdish Reddy, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, A Indrakaran Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Koppula Eeshwar, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Satyavathi Rathod, and others along with several BRS MPs, legislators and other leaders, mourned over the untimely death of Saichand. They recalled his service during and after the Telangana movement. They expressed sympathy to the family members.

BRS MLC K Kavitha stated that the untimely death of Saichand, who created awareness and imparted Telangana spirit in many people during the Telangana movement through his songs and dancing, was an irreplaceable loss for her and many others who participated in the agitation. She stated that Saichand’s music moved many emotions and spirits.

J Santosh Kumar, a member of the Rajya Sabha, described Saichand as a rare talent and a gifted vocalist whose uplifting songs during the Telangana movement mesmerised the people and roused the spirits of innumerable individuals. According to him, Saichand left an indelible impression on the souls of Telangana’s citizens, and his legacy will be cherished for all time.

D Damodar Rao, a member of the Rajya Sabha, expressed his profound sorrow over Saichand’s untimely death. He stated that the Telangana activist’s lyrics, which inspired many during the separate Telangana statehood movement, would ensure his immortality in Telangana’s history. He prayed for the singer’s family to have the fortitude to endure their abrupt loss.
