Republic Day Parade 2026:In a remarkable event leading up to Republic Day 2026, Asstt. Commandant Simran Bala, a 26-year-old officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been chosen to lead the male procession of soldiers during the 77th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. This decision is unprecedented in the biggest paramilitary force of India and has placed the young woman officer at the most prominent spot during the country’s grandest ceremony.
According to the officials, Simran Bala will command over 140 male CRPF personnel on January 26 not only because of the spectacular display of military precision but also for the symbolic nature of the event: the opening of a new chapter in gender inclusivity and merit-based leadership in Indian uniformed services.
Who Is Simran Bala?

Simran Bala is from Nowshera in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, a place that is aware of the difficulties of border security.
As per reports, she stood out with her performance and became the only woman from Jammu and Kashmir to qualify that year by securing a very high All India Rank in the first attempt at the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Assistant Commandants Examination 2023.
Shail Bala, Simran Bala’s sister, expressed her immense happiness and gratitude while commenting on the occasion. In an interview with ANI, she mentioned that the award was not only for her but also for their birthplace, Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir, and for the whole nation.

In a conversation with ANI, Shail Bala said, “It is a proud moment for us, entire Nowshera, J&K and the country… We are full of gratitude… Nowshera is a border area, and when someone reaches such a height, it makes us all happy… This shows that women have equal opportunity as men in India today.”

Republic Day Parade 2026
Typically, ceremonial leadership positions such as commanding an all-male contingent at the Republic Day parade have been occupied by senior male officers. While women have commanded mixed or women’s units in the past, Simran Bala’s appointment is the first instance when a female officer will lead a completely male unit at this event.

CRPF officials have said that her appointment was purely due to her merit and the leadership qualities she exhibited in the course of the months of rehearsals and assessments not by any quota or tokenism. It was her self-assured drilling along with her unambiguous command skills that attracted the attention of her superiors and her comrades in the Officer grade as well.
