Retired Hyderabad High Court judge Justice N Rammohan Rao and his family members were booked on Sunday under a criminal case filed by daughter-in-law accusing them of domestic violence.

Going by the reports, Justice Rammohan Rao, his wife Lakshmi and son Vashista book booked after the latter’s wife Sindhu Sharma lodged the complaint with CCS women’s police station.

Sindhu in her complaint reportedly stated that she was physically assaulted by her in-laws and husband at their Jubilee Hills residence.

Last week, she had to be admitted to a hospital after they allegedly thrashed her mercilessly. With the physical assault becoming unbearable, she decided to approach the police.

Following her complaint, a was filled under sections 498-A (punishment for subjection a married woman to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act against the trio.

The complainant, who was seeking custody of her kids, succeeded in getting custody of one of her two daughters on Sunday, hours after her in-laws and husband were booked by for subjecting her to dowry harassment and domestic violence.

The 30-year-old Sindhu also demanded the custody of her elder daughter. She vowed to continue her protest till the in-laws also hand over three-and-half-year-old Rishika.

Vashista and Sindhu got married six years ago. Sources said CCS officials had called the couple for counselling several times before. However, their efforts to reconcile the two were not successful.

Rammohana Rao was a senior judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court who retired in 2017 while serving at Madras High Court.
