The Maharashtra government is all set to launch its Rs 10 meal scheme, named ‘Shivbhojan’, in every district collectorate in the state from January 26, Food and Civil Supply Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Tuesday. The launch will be at the hands of respective guardian ministers in each district, he added.

He informed, “The state government would like to appoint women’s self-help groups (SHGs) to run the Shivbhojan scheme. The government will prepare a special software to maintain records and help in coordination,”

Bhujbal said plans are afoot to open more than 50 such outlets in the state.

Food and civil services minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Thursday said “The Rs 10 Shiv Bhojan will be formally launched in the state on Republic Day.”

The Rs 10 thali is said to have two chhappatis, one cup each of rice, gravy and vegetable. The affordable thali was an election promise of the Shiv Sena. Bhujbal said to empower women, the seniormost female member in the family will be identified as the family head in the ration card.
He also announced that the government will provide 35 kg per month grains to the beneficiaries under the Antodaya Yojana while under the Priority Households (PHH) and the Above Poverty Line (APL) scheme, farmer families will be provided with 5kg grains per member per month. The Public Distribution System will be strengthened in districts with incidents of farmer suicides.
