Sakat Chauth History

Once upon a time, a blind woman lived in a village with her son and daughter-in-law. The blind woman was a devout follower of Lord Ganesha. According to Hindu mythology, Ganesha once appeared before her and offered to grant her every request. Lord Ganesha advised the elderly woman to seek advice and assistance from her son and his wife before communicating with the Lord about what she desired. The elderly mother approached her son and his wife next. The son begged his mother to petition Lord Ganesha for money and wealth, while her daughter-in-law requested a grandchild. The woman observed that both her son and his wife had requested assistance for their personal requirements and then considered inquiring with her neighbours. One of the neighbours suggested that she pray to the Lord to restore her vision. The following day, Lord Ganesha appeared before her and inquired as to what she want. She hoped for everything she had ever heard of, including wealth, a grandson, and good vision. Since the Lord had promised, he granted her every wish.

Sankat Chauth Importance

For years, people have observed a fast on Sankat Chauth in order to receive the blessings of Goddess Sakat Mata and Lord Ganesha. On the day of the Sakat Chauth fast, Arghya is worshipped and sacrificed to the moon. When the moon is spotted, followers perform moon worship, and then Parana breaks the fast. It is claimed that devotees who fast on this day will be granted success, prosperity, and fortune throughout their lives. Married women who fast for the sake of their children seek the blessings of Goddess Sakat Mata and Lord Ganesha for a long and healthy life and for the well-being of their children.
