In Tulsa, storm sirens were activated due to thunderstorms producing 100+ mph wind surges. It has been determined that the situation is life-threatening. There have been multiple reports of power surges.
The severe thunderstorm warning has been cancelled for the counties of Hughes, Pottawatomie, and Seminole, as well as Cleveland, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, and Payne.
Thousands of customers in Oklahoma are currently without electricity due to severe weather. OG&E reported over 900 disruptions as of 12:07 a.m., with over 500 reported in Oklahoma County, affecting over 50,000 customers.
“Winds of 90 mph are blowing through downtown Tulsa. “Those were the most powerful lightning strikes I’ve ever seen,” a Twitter user said.
“Major power flashes across downtown Tulsa as 100-130 mph vehicles race across the city”; “power goes out in real-time in the neighbourhood after massive transformers flash”; “100-130 mph vehicles race across the city.”
Over 100,000 customers are currently without power in Oklahoma due to pervasive destructive wind gusts. In Tulsa, sirens reverberated and cell phones alerted residents of destructive 100 mph wind gusts. Winds over 100 mph were measured by radar just above the ground,” a third person said.
Meanwhile, Arkansas is struck by cyclones south of Fort Smith. They are anticipated to conclude at approximately 1:45 AM local time.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 4:00 a.m. for the counties of Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Franklin, Madison, Sebastian, and Washington in Arkansas, and Adair, Cherokee, Delaware, Le Flore, Ottawa, and Sequoyah in Oklahoma.
