Shab-e-Qadr 2020: The odd nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan have begun from today, May 14. The third ten days is called Jahannam. Laylatul-Qadr (Arabic: لیلة القدر‎), The Night of Power, is the holiest night in the Islamic calendar. Muslims believe that on this night, the Quran was sent down from the heaven to the Earth. The exact date of this night is unknown, but occurs on one of the last ten odd nights of Ramadan (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th).

According to Islamic beliefs, Shab-e-Qadar also known as Laylat-al-Qadr is the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammed. On this night, God forgives the sins and accepts all the wishes and that the annual decree is revealed to the angles who falls to the earth.

Just like the whole month of Ramadan has a special place in other months. Similarly, the last ten days of Ramadan have a special place in the whole month. As per the Islamic scholar Maulana Muhammad Musawwir Alam Nadvi, he said that one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam also includes the fasting of Ramadan.

Date of Shab-e-Qadr 2020:

The date of Shab-e-Qadar is not fixed as it falls on one of the odd nights in the last 10 days of Ramazan, i.e, 21st or 23rd or 25th or 27th or 29th of the holy month. Because of this reason, from the 21st night of Ramadan, Momin wakes up in search of this night and starts praying.

The mosques are closed due to the lockdown, so Momin is awake at homes and is offering prayers.

Significance of Shab-e-Qadr:

Laylat al-Qadr signifies the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammad. Muslims believe that on this night the blessings and mercy of God are abundant. They also hold special prayers and recite Quran entire night to seek God’s blessings and mercy. Lailatul Qadr is a celebration to commemorate the arrival of the final guidance for humans.

Signs of Shab-e-Qadr:

As the date of Shab-e-Qadar in the month of Ramazan is not known. Some Hadiths list certain sings that hint the occurrence of Laylat-a-Qadr. It is said on Shab-e-Qadar, it is a serene, quiet and shining night. The temperature is neither hot nor cold and the moon shines clearly. Either there is rainfall during the night or during the day.

In Islam, this night is described as a better night than a thousand nights.

Aitikaf is a type of prayer. Men in mosques and women sit in any corner of the house with a silent fast. In this, prayers are made to Allah for the purification of conscience and for the well-being and welfare of the people of village, society, city and country.

In the Holy book, the Quran, the specific date of Shab-e-Qadar or Laylat-al-Qadr is not mentioned. But as per the Islamic beliefs, on Shab-e-Qadar, the rewards of acts of worship done is more than the reward of around 83 years of worship.  It is described as the night of power in Quran. Also in the Holy book, an entire chapter is dedicated to Laylat-al-Qadr.

The most important quality and feature of the last ten days of Ramadan is that it has a night that is better than a thousand months. This is the night to describe the glory of which a separate Surah called Qadr in the Holy Quran was mentioned.

Duas For the night of destiny (Lailat-ul-Qadr)

اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ ، تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee

O Allah You are The One Who forgives greatly, and loves to forgive, so forgive me
