The actor, who was born in 1952, has appeared in over 600 films throughout his illustrious career. In the early 1980s, Shakti Kapoor established himself in Hindi cinema with his popular antagonist portrayals in ‘Qurbani’ and ‘Rocky’. In the following decade, he transitioned from negative villain roles to comedic roles. His real name is Sunil Sikandarlal Kapoor, not Shakti Kapoor. He decided to alter his name after being informed that his original name is not suitable for villainous roles.

 

His family belongs to the lower middle class. His father used to operate a tailor establishment in the Connaught Place neighbourhood of Delhi.

He portrayed the antagonist in Sanjay Dutt’s first film, Rocky.

Shakti Kapoor participated in the fifth season of the popular reality programme ‘Bigg Boss’ in 2011.

The actor has also appeared in Bhojpuri, Odia, Bengali, and Assamese films, in addition to Hindi.

His son Siddhanth launched his career as an assistant director on films including Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke, and Dhol.

On the set of the 1980 film Kismet, starring Mithun Chakraborty, he met his wife Shivangi.

Shakti Kapoor obtained his bachelor’s degree at Delhi University before enrolling at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune for his master’s degree.
