Congress’ interim President Sonia Gandhi has expressed her displeasure to former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for engaging in ‘groupism’ over the next state unit chief.

She has refused to entertain Siddaramaiah’s nominee MB Patil for KPCC presidentship and Leader of Opposition. She reminded him it was the party which supported him to be the Leader of Opposition and the Chief Minister of the state for five years.

In all likelihood, state party veteran DK Shivakumar is set to get the top post. A formal announcement is also expected soon.

The plan, according to the party leadership, is to give representation to both South and North Karnataka and also to prominent castes, such as the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities.

Shivakumar, who has many times proved as a troubleshooter for the Congress in Karnataka, on Wednesday played down the developments over the KPCC president’s post. He asserted that they (Siddaramaiah camp) can continue to “do their state politics” and that he will worry about his “other domestic issues”.
