Steam Adds Official PlayStation Controllers Support, Makes it Easier to Find Compatible Games

Steam: Steam has long been an Xbox-compatible client, but PlayStation controller users are not in the same boat. The process of locating PlayStation controller-compatible titles has never been pleasant. The situation is about to change, as the most recent update to Steam adds official support for PlayStation controllers. It will function in a manner analogous to Xbox controllers and facilitate the process of users locating compatible titles.

Supported PlayStation Controller Games on Steam
The team announced the expansion of Steam Library’s controller support feature to PlayStation controllers in its most recent Steam Community post. This pertains to DualShock and DualSense controllers, which are designed for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, respectively.

A refreshed Controller-Friendly Hub is the outcome of the update. It is a centralized location on Steam that provides a comprehensive list of controller-compatible titles. Previously, only Xbox controller-compatible games were displayed; however, filters for DualShock and DualSense are now present as well.

A single filter, labelled “All Controllers,” returns a list of every game, irrespective of the controller model. This page will, by default, display games that are compatible with the controller you most recently used to play.

When a user visits the store page for a specific game, Steam will also provide a catalog of the controllers that are compatible with that game. It will also indicate whether the title supports controllers in their entirety or only partially. The group has added a category to the Steam Input API that lists more than two hundred controllers that are compatible with the game.

In the same way, controller compatibility status will be viewable in both the Steam search and Your Library sections. Additionally, if a specific product specifies the use of a controller, the retailer will ensure that that information is unambiguous.

In general, the most recent Steam update significantly simplifies the process of locating games that are compatible with one’s controller. Additionally, it facilitates the verification of a title’s compatibility status prior to making a purchase decision. Buying a game with high expectations, only to be disappointed later due to controller compatibility, will end.

Additionally, Valve has confirmed that development is underway on a Steam Deck handheld console of the next iteration. Probably designated the Steam Deck 2, its release is not anticipated for the following two to three years.

Due to the organization’s desire for the successor to represent a generational advancement, the release date will be approached with great deliberation. The Steam Deck OLED, its most recent product, features an improved OLED display panel. Additionally, it features a larger battery that is said to be 30–50% more powerful than its predecessor.
