An old interview clip of South Indian actor Rekha is doing rounds on the internet as she came out with a shocking revelation in which she said that she was unaware of a kissing shot with Kamal Hassan for her film Punnagai Mannan.
To which all the fans reacted and said that Kamal Hassan should apologise to her and in that response she said that she does not want it and do not expect it either since Punnagai Mannan was a blockbuster and paved the way for multiple roles where she collaborated with Ramarajan and Ilaiyaraaja, like Namma Ooru Pattukaran.
Rekha also said that the kiss didn’t look ugly or aggressive on-screen. There was a need for it, but she was a very young girl and she didn’t know about it. He (director K Balachander) said, ‘Kamal, close your eyes! You remember what I told you, right?’ and Kamal said that he did. Then we had to jump when he said 1, 2, 3… we kissed and then jumped. It was only when I watched it in theatres that I realised it had such a huge impact.
Rekha was only 16 when she did the film after completing Class 10.
She also talked about being told that the Censor Board would not approve of the kiss. She added that she would never have agreed to kiss if she was aware of the same in advance
Kamal and Rekha were playing the role of lovers in the 1986 K Balachander directorial. The actress had claimed that she had no idea about the kiss in the scene where the couple jumps off a waterfall. In a recent interview with The News Minute, the actress spoke about the issue once again, adding that she does not expect an apology after all these years.
