Former Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha went into home quarantine after her driver tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Along with Kavitha, her family members are also at-home quarantine.

As suggested by the doctor, the ex-MP will undergo 14 days home quarantine in her residence at Hyderabad. According to the sources, Kavitha is following the quarantine guidelines as a part of precautionary measures.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday released a song in honor of her brother KTR’s 44th birthday. She is the first woman parliamentarian from Telangana. She represented as the Member of Parliament of Nizamabad Lok Sabha Constituency from 2014 to 2019.

Several political leaders in Telangana have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the past. On July 18, Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda Goud along with his wife Sowjanya and son Vidhat were tested positive for coronavirus. Along with Quthbullapur MLA, three more ruling party MLAs tested positive for the virus so far. Jangaon MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy, Nizamabad Urban MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta and Nizamabad Rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan contracted the virus. Earlier, Minister Mahmood Ali and deputy speaker Padmarao were also infected with COVID-19.

In Telangana, as many as 1,554 new cases and nine deaths were reported on Wednesday, taking the tally of positive cases to 49,259 and deaths to 438 in the state. Out of the 1,554 cases, 842 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits followed by Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts with 132 and 96 cases respectively.

The Telangana health department has now admitted that there has been a community spread of Covid-19 in the state. Director of health services G. Srinivasa Rao told a press conference Thursday that “the virus has spread into the community and no one knows any longer who is a carrier and who is not.”

“We have had more cases in GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) limits so far but they are now decreasing. But cases in tier two cities such as Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and the rest of the state are increasing,” he said.

Srinivasa Rao blamed this on ‘irresponsible people’ who are not following the safety precautions. While a majority of the population is being careful, others are not, he said.
