Akula Hanumanth, an independent candidate contesting from Korutla assembly of Jagtial district in Telangana, can be seen distributing slippers to voters and asking them “Hit me with it, if I don’t deliver”. The 45-year-old, Akula decided to fight the elections, as he felt there was no improvement in the quality of life in Korutla. Hanumanth also handed out his resignation letter for a future date to prove that, public of constituency have the right to remove him from the position, if he does not work well.
Speaking to a news website, Akula told that “People come to power and don’t do any work and this cycle repeats. There is no way to hold the people we elect accountable. I decided to give the voters slippers and an undated resignation letter as it’s my way of telling them that I can be held accountable”.
Akula Hanumanth is fighting against ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate K Vidya Sagar Rao, who had registered victory from Korutla assembly three times consecutively. Telangana polls are scheduled for December 7 and results will be declared on December 11.
