In a shocking incident of female infanticide where a paternal grandfather killed his newly born grand-daughter by stuffing paddy grains in her mouth. The incident reportedly happened on Saturday at Erragattu Thanda in Rayaparthy Mandal of Warangal, but came to light only on Monday.
Going by the reports, that the accused, identified as Bheechya, was expecting baby boy for his son. It is alleged that Bheechya expressed his anger at the daughter-in-law for giving the birth to a girl child even in the second issue. In a fit of rage, Bheechya poured coarse paddy in the mouth of the child and killed the new born. Later, he buried her body in the nearby fields.

The incident came to light when Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) got information through a phone call from a resident of the Erragattu Thanda that the baby girl was murdered by her grandfather.
After learning about the incident, officials dug out the infant’s body, from where it had been buried. It was decided to exhume the body of the infant and conduct the autopsy by the forensic experts on Tuesday. Meanwhile a police case was registered against the accused.

District Child Welfare Officer G Mahender Reddy said, “The woman had given birth to a baby girl on September 4 and weighed 2.4 kg at birth, and had no health complications. They were discharged the next day.”
This was the second girl born to the mother, who was discharged along with the infant, from the hospital, a day after giving birth.
