Leonard Cohen, the Canadian singer, songwriter, and poet best known for penning the oft-covered modern classics like “Suzanne,” “Sisters of Mercy” and “Hallelujah,” died on Thursday night.
He was 82 years old. His passing was announced on his Facebook page.
“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away,” reads a post on the social media site. “We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”
