There is some good news for Triumph supporters. As a result of the Bajaj-Triumph partnership, Triumph Bikes presented two new motorcycles in London: the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. On July 5, 2023, these bikes will be available in India. You can read more about the Scrambler 400 X here, but the brand-new Triumph Speed 400 is covered in greater detail further down.

Triumph Speed 400: Specifications

The Speed 400 is the newest member of the Speed Twin 900 and 1200 families of Triumph’s modern classic vehicles. The Speed 400 sports a circular headlight up front that has a silver ring around it. It has an LED headlamp with the recognisable Triumph LED DRL as well as LED turn indicators. It sports a teardrop-shaped Triumph fuel tank and a flat, wide one-piece handlebar.

A single-piece saddle and a sleek tail section with an LED tail lamp are features of the Speed 400. The engine has brushed steel fins and a black powder-coated exterior. The motorbike has an athletic aspect that is enhanced by the upswept exhaust. Triumph offers the Speed 400 in three colour options: Carnival Red, Caspian Blue, and Phantom Black, along with a two-tone livery with a prominent Triumph graphic on the tank.

Ride-by-wire providing linear and intuitive throttle response, switchable traction control, and dual-channel ABS are all features of the Speed 400. The bike boasts a large analogue speedometer with an integrated LCD display that includes a tachometer, gear position indicator, fuel gauge, and other useful data for the instrument cluster. Additionally, the bike features a handy USB-C port for charging devices like smartphones while on the move that is placed next to the handlebar. For further protection, Triumph has added a steering lock and an engine immobiliser as standard features on the Speed 400.

Motor & Chassis

The Speed 400 was built entirely at Triumph’s Hinckley facility utilising a cast aluminium swingarm and a steel tubular frame with a bolt-on subframe. The new Triumph Speed 400, according to the company, is propelled by a brand-new 398cc single-pot liquid-cooled TR-series motor that has been developed for responsive, engaging, and characterful power delivery.

For a comfortable ride at low speeds, the engine has a DOHC cylinder head with a finger-follower 4-valve arrangement and a weighted and balanced crankshaft. The contact parts have DLC applied to them in order to reduce friction and offer a free-revving, smooth engine performance. The motor generates 39.5 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 37.5 Nm at 6500 rpm, according the specs. There is a 6-speed gearbox connected to the mill.

Parts

A large 43 mm big-piston telescopic fork assembly with gold outer tubes supports the new Speed 400, while a monoshock unit with an external reservoir supports the rear. There is 140 mm of travel in the front and 130 mm in the back. On 17-inch light alloy wheels, Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres are used. The tyres feature front and rear profiles of 110/70-R17 and 150/60-R17, respectively.

The Speed 400 includes a 230 mm disc with a floating calliper at the back and a 300 mm disc with a 4-piston radial calliper up front for anchoring. The braking system works in tandem with dual-channel ABS. The Speed 400 has an accessible seat height of 790 mm and weights 170 kg.
