Two held for derogatory post on social media against PM, HM in Mangaluru

Two men have been arrested for a derogatory post on social media in Mangaluru. The duo was spreading misinformation on the social media platform on coronavirus and objectionable and derogatory content against government functionaries, including Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The two persons behind the derogatory activity have been identified as Muhammed Ilyas and Abdul Basheer.

The accused during the investigation claimed to be associated with PFI/SDPI and divulged details of a broader network working behind the scene.

The cyber police are trying to trace the culprits involved in this act. Police said that stringent action will be taken against them as well as anyone trying to sabotage anti-COVID efforts.

Both of them have been booked under provisions of Epidemic Diseases Act 1897, Sec 67 of Information Technology Act, Sec 54 Disaster Management Act 2005, and Sec 188, 153,505 of Indian Penal Code.

Recently, The Mangaluru police arrested a man on charges of spreading malicious content on social media through a page named ‘idunammadhwani’.

According to City Police Commissioner Dr. P S Harsha, the arrested is identified as Nizam Neeza.
