How do I become eligible to receive Chapter 31 VA benefits?
Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) services are subject to a 12-year minimum eligibility period. Chapter 31: VA veterans must apply for services and meet with a vocational rehabilitation counselor to qualify.
The VRC will help the veteran determine if their service-connected condition is an employment handicap. The VRC will continue counseling veterans with employment handicaps who qualify for services to establish an employment and rehabilitation strategy.
This will include a specified objective, such as independent living or employment, intermediate goals, and VA services and resources to help the veteran reach them.
What transpires if I fail to meet the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible to receive Chapter 31 benefits, you must meet the following requirements:
- You have been issued an accusation that does not qualify as dishonorable.
- You have been assigned a service-connected disability rating by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) of at least 10 percent or a memorandum rating of 20 percent or higher.
- Your application for VR&E VetSuccess services has been received.
The VRC will help non-foreign-eligible veterans find alternative alternatives for employment and rehabilitation needs identified during assessment.
