At least 10 people, including four of a family, died after consuming spurious liquor in Ramnagar area of the district on Tuesday, May 28.

The district administration has confirmed the deaths of five people, including four members of the same family in Raniganj village, a HindustanTimes report read. Locals claimed five others have died in Akohara Amrai and Tatehra villages.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences on the deaths and has directed the district magistrate, superintendent of police to immediately rush to the spot and provide medical attention to all affected.

“I am saddened by unfortunate loss of innocent lives due to consumption of spurious liquor in #Barabanki. Instructed DM & SP to take all possible measures to nab the culprit and provide assistance to bereaved families. Have asked Pr. Sec. Excise to investigate & take stern action,” the CM tweeted.

The incident was reported on Monday night in Raniganj area of Ramnagar and reportedly all the deceased purchased the country-made liquor from one shop. Following the consumption of liquor, people complained of vomiting and other problems. They were all rushed to the primary health centres and were shifted to the district hospital.
