UP: 150 first year medical students allegedly forced to shave heads, salute seniors

A video is making rounds on the social media showing as many as 150 first-year medical students roaming around the campus with their heads shaved and saluting their seniors. This brazen case of ragging has come to light from the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai.

The newcomers were made to bend and chant “Huzur tohfa kabool hai” — taking cue from the popular Bollywood blockbuster “Three Idioits”.

Reacting to the news, university’s Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar reportedly claimed the institution maintained special squads that kept a “check over ragging” and has suspended students for similar incidents.

“We keep a strict vigil on such activities and we have a separate dean social welfare for students. Further, we have an anti-ragging committee to deal with complaints,” he said.

He also said that the junior students can approach their warden with complaints in this regard and that he will personally keep an eye open for any mischievious activity.

“We also have a special squad which visits every place in University to keep a check over ragging. The students can complain to the anti-ragging committee or even to their wardens,” said Kumar.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the cognizance will be taken into the incident and strong action initiated against those involved.
