In fear of losing soldier husband to terror attack, wife commits suicide

Uttar Pradesh rape survivor hanged herself to death as the accused rapists were given clean chit from the police.

The victim had registered a case against the rapists in August last year. The case that was initially investigated by the police was later shifted to the crime branch.

According to the Gonda police superintendent, the two investigation officers were suspended after the suicide took place.

“We have received the information about her suicide. Both the investigating officers have been suspended. We are investigating the matter in detail and will ensure that the accused are punished,” he added.

The rape victim is a mother of two. Last year in September, the woman along with her husband had tried self-immolation outside Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow to show her plight.

According to the victim’s husband, the two men not only did the heinous crime but also filmed it and when the police gave them clean chit the victim was shattered. He also said that the police was not serious about the matter and they didn’t conduct the investigation properly.

In a similar case reported from Uttar Pradesh, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Greater Noida.

A zero FIR was filed in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 police station against the three accused in December 2018. The accused men called her again to tell her that they had obscene videos of her. The men abused her again and took money from her by threatening her.
