Sunil Uniyal Gama, a BJP candidate who has been engaged in jobs such as selling paan and chowmein won the Dehradun Municipal Corporation seat to become a Mayor. Sunil defeated Congress’ Dinesh Agarwal by a whopping margin of 30,000 votes.
In an interview to a newspaper, he said, “It is only the BJP that could give a ticket to somebody with a humble background like mine. I have done many odd jobs like running a paan shop, photography and selling chowmein.”
The Mayor to be, Gama, was first appointed as an election coordinator for the Rajpur assembly seat(2017) by the Bhartiya Janata Party. Apparently, he campaigned for Trivendra Singh Rawat in the Doiwala assembly seat, where Rawat won. This time Rawat campaigned for Gama. He first came into politics when he joined BJP’ youth wing in the 1990s.
Gama and his wife have two children, a daughter preparing for Chartered Accountancy and an engineer son.
